Oh, doth Eros sleep soundly, shamelessly,
Accepting his deeds upon mortal lives?
Do sullen hearts not declare infamy
As cherub wings flutter into the skies?

I, for one, cannot ignore his presence,
Especially not on this warm night.
They may feel his arrow's sting soon torments,
But not I; the burning sheds only light.

My skin, it tingles as a falling snow
As the trees embrace with darkening shade,
And I, awash in your heavenly glow,
Swallow the moon as your eyes serenade

Until I realize, in twilight's lair,
That it's only the stars at which I stare.

So I've had this sitting around for about a week now. 'Tis my Valentine's Day submission. This is a Shakespearean sonnet that sort of reflects my feelings now in an exaggerated way.

I don't like writing sonnets, but we've been reading them for the past couple of weeks in AP Lit, so my mind was driving me to write one. x_o

Structurally, it's very much like a traditional Shakespearean sonnet. Each quatrain has its own focus, and the couplet at the end is the resolution. And it's icky iambic pentameter. Yay structure.

Thanksah. I don't really -like- writing them, but I was in the mood to try. It needs some cleaning up, methinks (or maybe it's just my need for a steady rhythm; it really is fine for a sonnet).
And thanks. I don't know if falling snow really represents that sensation, but hopefully I'll find out soon enough. ;)

And could you be the one that's not afraid
To look me in the eyes?
I swear I would collapse
If I would tell how I think you fell
From the sky..
Thank you. :D Those last two lines were actually derived from my first version of this poem, which was much more simple and less refined (I liked it, but I felt it was too basic).

Are you really, your poetry elevates me to heavenly heights.
:D I'm very glad you enjoy it.
